Tracking passenger movement with ground-based laser scanner

چکیده
Abstract: It is important to count the number of passengers or to measure a trajectory of passengers in many fields, such as security of a building, marketing, etc. Various studies are conducted on the methods of counting or tracking passengers. For example, cameras have been mainly used in existing studies, but the disadvantage of using cameras is that geometric parameters like distance and velocity can’t be directly measured. Radar sensors are also used. They can measure distance and velocity, but their viewing angle and angular resolution is very limited. Hence, in this study, among those methods mentioned above, we used laser scanners, whose viewing angle is wide and the angular resolution is high. The goal of our study is to track passengers by laser scanners and evaluate the possibility quantitatively, and as the first step of tracking passengers, we attempted to detect passengers from scanner image data. We developed an algorithm for passenger detection and demonstrated the validity of the algorithm through an experiment.

Visualizing Passenger Flow in Railway Station Using Laser Scanners
Our goal in this study is to examine the feasibility for analyzing and visualizing passenger flows using laser scanners in a railway station. A network of laser scanners is located on different places and scan pedestrian's feet at a horizontal plane about 16 cm above the ground. Motion trajectories are extracted from the laser points on moving feet. They are analyzed to find the pattern of pass...

This paper approaches detection and tracking of an aero-modelling helicopter with a laser range-finder. The sensing device can complement vision for aerial vehicle control in operations such as landing or taking off from the ground. To this end, a conventional 2D laser scanner has been adapted for 3D operation by means of a motorized base. First experimental results are presented for a small-sc...
متن کاملMonoscopic Automotive Ego-Motion Estimation and Cyclist Tracking
This paper presents concepts, methods and experimental results for estimating the scale of a trajectory that is established by monoscopic Visual Odometry algorithms for use in autonomous driving. While monoscopic Visual Odometry has been widely investigated, one of its key issues restrains its broad appliance: the scale drift. To tackle it, we leverage scene inherent information about the groun...

Due to its simplicity and efficiency, the pure-pursuit path tracking method has been widely employed for planned navigation of nonholonomic ground vehicles. In this paper, we investigate the application of this technique for reactive tracking of paths that are implicitly defined by perceived environmental features. Goal points are obtained through an efficient interpretation of range data from ...
